It’s no secret that 2017 has seen many new and edgy hairstyles from celebs in Hollywood. Below, we’ve compiled a short list of some of the hottest trends that we’re going to see in hair this fall!

  1. An Edgy Buzzcut – With celebs such as Amber Rose & Kristen Stewart taking the plunge with their buzzcuts, this style is quickly gaining popularity. Although it may seem extreme, a “big chop” such as a buzzcut is a great way to start fresh with your hair and get rid of any damage, over processed or over dyed hair.
  2. Natural Curls – If it’s one thing we’ve seen this year, it’s the incredible growth, no pun intended, of women across the country embracing & rehabilitating their natural curls. Take a step back from the flat iron and learn to embrace what you were born with. Bouncy, healthy looking curls are totally in!
  3. Long, Soft Waves – The elegant look of long, layered beach waves always seems to come back into style. Now that the Fall is here, it’s no surprise that we are beginning to see this hairstyle everywhere. Switch up your look with soft waves today!
  4. Vintage Bun – The bun has made a huge comeback in the past couple of years, especially because of the popularity of hair donuts making the perfect bun as easy as 123. Experiment with your bun by adding some loose curls or even a braid to really make your style pop! Another thing you can try is a sleek, low bun. A low bun will give you the sleek look of having a bun along with the look of a fancy updo.
  5. Blunt Bob – The bob is another classic hair style that never truly goes out of style. This is because there are so many different ways you can cut & style a bob. Trending now – blunt bobs with blunt bangs. It’s all about working the sharpness at the end of your bob to achieve the perfectly straight cut look.

Texas College Of Cosmetology is a renowned school in Abilene, TX; Lubbock, TX; and San Angelo, TX that helps aspiring hair stylists learn more about their passion: hair. We’re a cosmetology school and nail technician school that teaches our students about all kinds of beauty treatments, including how to maintain healthy hair.

To ensure you or your clients maintain healthy, shiny hair, read some of the tips we’ve listed below!

Don’t wash your hair every day

Washing your hair more than you have to strips the essential oils from your hair that it needs to stay healthy. Consider using a dry shampoo on the days you don’t wash your hair.

Choose the right shampoo

Don’t worry too much if your shampoo has sulfates or doesn’t have sulfates. The most important thing to look for on the bottle when shopping for shampoo is “damage repairing.” This means that there will be proteins within the shampoo that can strengthen your hair.

Rinse with cold water

As you are washing out your shampoo and conditioner, think about using cold water instead of warm water. Warm water is harsher on your hair and will strip away oils that you need!

Blow dry in layers

Make sure that you spray your hair with heat protectant spray each time you blow dry (and also when you use a straightener, curler, etc.) and dry your hair in layers.

Take advantage of scalp treatments

If you have dry and frizzy hair, a scalp treatment can help to add essential oils to your scalp that you might be missing. Don’t overdo it though!

As a hair stylist, your clients will be looking to you for advice on how to keep their hair beautiful and strong. Keep these tricks in mind!

Hi, yall! I'm so excited about this opportunity to share my heart and passion for this industry with ya'll! My name is Kaylee Harbin, I'm 21, and I graduated from Texas College of Cosmetology, Abilene in November of 2015. I'm in love with what I do!
Rewind about 3 years ago, that definitely wasn't the case. 3 years ago, I'd just graduated high school and was suffering through nursing school. Now, nothing against nurses, but it was absolutely not my cup of tea. I knew I wanted to help people, and I had a desire to serve people, I was just wasn't sure nursing was my calling. After my husband was given orders to Dyess AFB, Abilene in the summer of 2013 I knew I was done with nursing school. After stirring with what to do and going back and forth for over a year, I decided that maybe cosmetology school was something I could do. Like I said previously, I had the heart for people, I had some talent with a curling iron, and I was fairly certain coloring someone's hair couldn't be that hard. So, I visited the school, got the tour, met some of the girls, and began feeling like maybe this could be it.
I started my first day so excited and full of jitters! And before I knew it, that excitement turned into full blown passion! I'd never yearned to learn more than I did my year in school. My instructors were the best of the best and instilled in me, not only the principles I would need but also the confidence that is demanded of a stylist. I aspired to be the best stylist I could be! And that brings me to where I am now. I'm currently working for the Salon at Ulta, continuing to learn and grow everyday. Design and finish is where my heart is and I'm working everyday to be a well rounded stylist and advancing my knowledge and expertise in color. Everyday brings new challenges and new experiences. I'm so blessed to do what I love everyday and to be given the opportunity to be of service to my clients. I recently read another blog that posed the question "if you didn't get paid to do what you do, would you still do it?". My answer is yes, a million times over, yes!!
